How this comparison is built

Most vendor comparison pages are a column of green ticks against a column of crosses. This one marks capabilities three ways, and several rows go against us. Everything here comes from publicly available vendor documentation, product pages and third-party reviews as of September 2026. Where a competitor capability is marked not documented, it may well exist without being publicly described — verify with the vendor before making a decision on it. Competitor products change quickly, particularly around AI, so check the date on this page.

Vendor by vendor

The short, honest read on each — what they are good at, and what changes if you move.

Strongest at:

Data at rest inside Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams, sensitivity labels, eDiscovery and retention. If your sensitive data genuinely lives entirely in Microsoft 365, Purview is the right answer and it is already in your E5 agreement.
Coverage of everything outside Microsoft — Slack, Salesforce, Box, GitHub, network traffic and any AI tool — plus Linux endpoints, lineage through transformation, and Gen AI enforcement that classifies the payload rather than logging that a visit happened. No E5 tier or Intune enrollment to clear first.

Strongest at:

Classifier library breadth with 1,700+ templates, mature EDM and IDM fingerprinting, and risk-adaptive protection driven by UEBA. A serious product for a large regulated enterprise with a dedicated DLP practice.
One agent instead of separate endpoint, network and cloud products with a management server underneath. Live in about a day rather than a programme requiring dedicated specialists, at under 2% CPU, with the incident narrative written automatically.

Strongest at:

Zero trust proxy at global scale, FedRAMP High and DoD IL5 authorization, and a mature inline enforcement fabric. If those certifications are requirements, Zscaler is the answer.
No bypass list. Cert-pinned applications force exceptions in a proxy architecture, and every entry is traffic leaving without inspection. Enforcement on the device covers those paths, works when a laptop goes direct, and does not need the Data Protection and AI Guard add-ons to reach the capability you came for.

Strongest at:

CASB heritage and in-app SaaS policy granularity, a deep DLP engine with thousands of identifiers, strong forensics, and a complete SASE story with SD-WAN.
The endpoint context their engine never receives — which process, which device state, which user history sat behind the upload. Plus a lighter agent, Gen AI capability at the same tier rather than an upgrade, and device management in the same install.

Strongest at:

AI-native detection, API coverage of sanctioned SaaS with no agent, a wide remediation set including redaction and masking, and the deepest published MCP and AI-agent coverage in this comparison — local and remote MCP servers, IDE-embedded assistants and gateway paths. They inspect prompts; we do not.
Device posture and process context underneath every decision, enforcement on unsanctioned destinations and local paths an API never sees, and a secure web gateway, ZTNA and device management in the same agent rather than three more vendors.

Strongest at:

Data lineage. They pioneered it, and their implementation traces the full lifecycle including origin and derivative works, which is deeper than ours. They also ship insider risk management and DSPM as full products, which we do not.
everything that is not data. Cyberhaven is a pure data-security company, so a secure web gateway, phishing protection, zero trust access and device management remain separate purchases with separate agents.

Also compared

Three more vendors that come up regularly in mid-market and identity-led evaluations. They sit outside the matrix above because they solve a narrower slice of the problem, not because they are weaker at it.

vs Safetica

Safetica is a well-liked mid-market data protection platform with a 4.5 rating on G2 across nearly 200 reviews.

vs Netwrix Endpoint Protector

Endpoint Protector is a genuinely strong cross-platform endpoint DLP with the best device control in this comparison.

vs miniOrange

miniOrange is an identity company that sells DLP as one module in a six-product portfolio.

When another tool is the better answer

We would rather tell you this on the first call than in month four of a deployment.

Common questions

Kitecyber inspects and enforces on the endpoint before data is transmitted. Cloud DLP services route traffic to a proxy or point of presence, decrypt it, inspect it and forward it. The proxy model adds latency, requires bypass lists for certificate-pinned applications, and stops seeing anything when a device routes directly to the internet. Endpoint enforcement has no routing dependency and can also read device, process and user context that a traffic stream does not carry.

Not always. Many customers keep an existing zero trust access layer and replace the data protection tier, because that is where the bypass list and the add-on licensing bite hardest. Others consolidate fully. Which makes sense depends on how much of your estate already routes through the proxy and what you are paying for the add-ons.

Kitecyber classifies sensitive data in the paste or upload payload on the device and blocks the transfer before it leaves. That is more than Microsoft Purview's browser extension, which logs event metadata rather than content, and it works on unsanctioned tools and personal accounts a proxy cannot distinguish by domain. Nightfall goes further in one respect by inspecting prompt text directly, which Kitecyber does not do.

No, and the word covers very different capabilities. Kitecyber tracks sensitive content through transformations — screenshots, encoding, format conversion — so a classified file stays governed when it stops looking like itself. Cyberhaven traces the full data lifecycle including origin and derivative works, which is a deeper model. Most other vendors in this comparison do not publicly document lineage at all.

Yes. The agent runs alongside other endpoint software, and a common pattern is to deploy in monitoring mode on a subset of the fleet, compare detections against the incumbent, then move enforcement over once the policy set is tuned. Migration support is included.

It was compiled in September 2026 from public vendor documentation, product pages and third-party reviews. Competitor capabilities in this market change quickly, particularly around AI agents and Gen AI controls, so verify current scope and licensing directly with each vendor before making a decision.
